Na última viagem que fiz a Berlim, cheguei numa noite gélida de Março, pelo que foi óptimo demorar menos de 3 minutos a chegar da paragem de metro de Stadtmite à porta do Gatpoint Charlie Hotel, no centro de Berlim. No check-in, o meu “Good evening” foi respondido, para minha surpresa, com um “Boa noite, bem vinda!” da portuguesa Ana. Era um bom prenúncio da simpatia e familiaridade que marcariam a minha estadia. Grande parte dos funcionários do hotel é de origem latina, entre portugueses, italianos e espanhóis, porque o hotel tem a preocupação de oferecer aos hóspedes um ambiente familiar e descontraído.
Acho que sempre tive algo de felina – não deve ser por acaso que o meu animal favorito é o tigre. Gosto de me sentir livre e de explorar novos lugares, mas também de encontrar um cantinho acolhedor e confortável onde me possa enroscar para planear novas descobertas… e dormir em silêncio. Sem prescindir de uma boa dose de elegância ecléctica. O Gat Point Charlie Hotel tem tudo isto, além da boa disposição do staff.

 

In  my latest visit to Berlin, I arrived in a cold March evening, so I was quite happy that it took me less than 3 minutes to get from the Staadmite underground stop to Gatpoint Charlie Hotel in the center of the city. At check-in, my “Good evening” was answered, to my surprise, with a “Boa noite, bem vinda!” by the Portuguese Ana. It was a good harbinger of the friendliness and familiarity that would mark my stay. Most of the hotel’s staff is of Latin origin, including Portuguese, Italian and Spanish, because the hotel wants to offer guests a familiar and relaxed atmosphere.
I like to think of myself  as a feline kind of girl. I enjoy feeling free and exploring new places, but at the end of the day I love to find a cozy and comfortable hideaway where I can relax and plan new explorations … and sleep in silence. All that wrapped in an eclectic elegant style. Gat Point Charlie Hotel had all this, adding to the a welcoming staff.

Tive o privilégio de ficar num quarto na fachada frontal do hotel, no sexto andar, com vista para a sossegada praça em frente ao hotel. O meu quarto, duplo, era bastante espaçoso, com uma secretária e até uma cadeira forrada a vermelho quente. O hotel oferece um prato de fruta de boas vindas e uma garrafa de água. A decoração é simples, moderna e prática. E não falta um apontamento de identidade: por cima da cabeceira das camas há um painel com fotos de Berlim que pode ser ligado, funcionando como luz de presença que imprime o cosmopolitismo da cidade no ambiente do quarto. Há wi-fi gratuito de boa qualidade em todo o hotel, o que para mim é não apenas excelente como imprescindível.

 I had the privilege of staying on a room at the front facade, on the sixth floor, overlooking the quiet square in front of the hotel. My double room was quite spacious with a desk and even a cushioned red chair. The hotel offers a selection of welcome fruits and a bottle of water.
The decor is simple, modern and practical. And there’s no shortage of identity: over the head of the beds is a panel of photos of Berlin that can be turned on, functioning as a spotlight that impresses the city’s cosmopolitanism in the room’s ambience. There is good quality free wi-fi throughout the hotel, which for me is not only excellent as a must have.

A cama era grande muito confortável e as almofadas (muitas, como convém a um gato que se preze) também. O quarto tem um isolamento excelente da temperatura exterior e cheguei mesmo a desligar o aquecimento durante a noite. Como tenho audição de gata e acordo facilmente, soube-me muito bem dormir num quarto em que não se ouve o mais pequeno ruído quer à noite, quer de manhã. E isso valeu muito depois de um dia cheio na grande feira de turismo ITB Berlin e antes de outro que queria aproveitar ao máximo. Se forem portugueses vão, como eu, sentir-se em casa quando entrarem a casa de banho e descobrirem que os produtos são nada menos do que da nossa Castelbell. Além do sabonete, tem loção corporal e sabonete líquido da marca que nasceu no Porto. O espaço do chuveiro é óptimo e muito espaçoso.

The bed was large and very comfortable and the cushions (a lot, as befits a cat) also. The room has excellent insulation from outside temperature and I even turned the heating off at night. Since I have a cat hearing and I am easily awaken by noises, I was happy to experience sleeping in a completely silent room. And, believe me, that was important after spending a full first day networking at the huge ITB Berlin tourism fair and preparing for a second one. If you are Portuguese like me, you will feel at home when you enter the bathroom and find that the beauty products are nothing less than from our Porto‘s Castelbell beauty brand. Besides the soap, there is body lotion and liquid soap of this Porto brand. The shower space is great and very spacious.

Ao romper do dia o quarto torna-se muito luminoso com as cortinas abertas e a visão da Torre da Televisão de Berlim dá vontade de explorar a cidade.

At break of day, opening the window curtains, the room is very bright. Above the skyline of buildings, the Berlin Television Tower is an open invitation to explore the city.

O pequeno almoço é uma das mais valias do hotel, a juntar ao conforto dos quartos e à sua grande centralidade. Entra-se pelo espaço do bar e é aí que deve aproveitar para pedir um sumo detox. Preparam-no na hora, sem custo adicional, com 4 ingredientes à escolha (cenoura, limão, gengibre e laranja). Eu só descobri este mimo no segundo dia mas ainda fui a tempo de o saborear. Claro que depois não resisti às coisas boas (e menos dietéticas) na sala principal…
O espaço de pequenos-almoços é luminoso e descontraído, com mesas corridas. Tem um horário bastante alargado, entre as 7:00 e as 10:30, com reposição constante de comidas e bebidas. Na zona dos quentes pode cozer o seu próprio ovo ou então escolher ovos mexidos, bacon e mesmo pequenas salsichas frescas bratwurst, grelhadas na hora. Há ainda café e chás.

Breakfast is one of the hotel’s biggest assets, adding to the comfort of the rooms and its great centrality. Entering through the bar, you can ask for a free detox juice. It is prepared on the spot, with 1-4 ingredients of your choice (carrot, lemon, ginger and orange). I chose all of them and it tasted wonderfully. Of course later I could not resist savoring all the good (and less dietetic) delicious things  in the main breakfast room …

The breakfast area is bright and relaxed. It has a very wide schedule, between 7:00 and 10:30, with a constant replacement of fresh food. You can boil your own egg or else choose scrambled eggs, bacon and even small freshly grilled bratwurst sausages. Besides coffee you have a selection of teas to choose from.

O pão fresco é de boa qualidade, com sementes ou simples e há bolos caseiros como um delicioso bolo de cenoura e frutos secos, além de croissants. E como estamos em Berlim, não podiam faltar as famosas Bolas de Berlim. Na Alemanha têm outro nome, claro, mas são na mesma boas e estão recheadas com compota de frutos vermelhos.
Mas a parte mais completa é mesmo a dos frescos. Seguindo a onda de alimentação saudável que atravessa Berlim, que a cada esquina tem supermercados e cafés com produtos biológicos, o Gatpoint Charlie permite optar entre cinco diferentes tipos de leite (amêndoa, arroz, soja, meio-gordo ou magro), 2 tipos de iogurte (iogurte natural e iogurtes de frutas), queijo fresco em creme, e acompanhamentos como sementes de chia, crumble de frutos vermelhos, mistura de frutos secos e outros cereais.
Para um autêntico brunch aproveite ainda as variedades de salames, queijo, tomate em fatias ou triturado para barrar. Além de tudo isto, nas mesas há taças com compotas, manteiga de amendoim e mel.

Fresh bread with seeds or plain is of good quality  as well as homemade cakes like a delicious carrot cake and nuts and crisp croissants. 
But the most complete part is even the fresh ones. Following the healthy eating wave that runs through Berlin, where every corner has supermarkets and cafes with organic products, Gatpoint Charlie allows you to choose between five different types of milk (almond, rice, soy, half-fat or lean), 2 types of yoghurt (plain yogurt and fruit yogurts), fresh cream cheese, and side dishes such as chia seeds, red fruit crumble, mixed nuts and other cereals.
For an authentic brunch, you can also enjoy the varieties of salami, cheese, sliced ​​or shredded tomatoes to spread. Besides all this, on the tables there are bowls with jams, peanut butter and honey.

Estar no centro da cidade, dormir bem, wi-fi sem falhas e um bom pequeno-almoço são as máximas deste hotel que, embora esteja classificado com 3 estrelas, mais parece ter 4. Os quartos (140 no total) têm boas dimensões, mas quem quiser mais espaço pode optar por uma das suites do hotel. O Gat Point de Berlim  tem já presença em Lisboa, com um hotel num belíssimo edifício antigo do Rossio, completamente recuperado, e está para breve a abertura do próximo hotel em Barcelona. Todos no centro da cidade, com um estilo descontraído sem comprometer o conforto.

Como chegar | How to get there:

Do aeroporto de Shonefeld: Caminhe pela passagem que dá acesso ao S-Bahn (550 m), desça e apanhe o S9 em direcção a Friedrichstraße. Saia e mude para o metro (U-Bahn). Apanhe o U6 em direcção a U-Alt Mariendorf. Saia na paragem de Stadtmitte.

Do aeroporto de Tegel: Apanhe o Bus 128 em direcção a U Osloer Str.e saia na Julius-Leber-Kaserne. Vá para o metro e siga na linha U6 em direcção a U-Alt Mariendorf. Saia na paragem de Stadtmitte.

Da paragem de metro de Stadtmitte na Friedrichstraße, vindo da linha U6:
Na estação siga pela saída que surge na direcção de trajecto do metro que apanhou. Na rua, siga em frente, vire na primeira rua à direita e depois na primeira à esquerda. O hotel fica em frente, atrás de uma escultura de ferro gigante.

 

From Shonefeld Airport: Walk to the S-Bahn (550 m, take the S9 towards Friedrichstraße. Exit and change to the subway (U-Bahn). Take the U6 towards U-Alt Mariendorf. Get off at the Stadtmitte stop.

From Tegel Airport: Take Bus 128 in the direction of U Osloer Str. and exit at Julius-Leber-Kaserne. Go to the underground and follow the U6 in the direction of U-Alt Mariendorf. Get off at the Stadtmitte stop.

From the Stadtmitte underground stop on Friedrichstraße, coming from the U6 line:
At the station, follow the exit that appears in the direction of the subway route that you have picked up. On the street, go straight on, take the first street on the right and then the first on the left. The hotel is across the street, behind a giant iron sculpture.

• Ilha dos Museus. A 1,7 km (11 minutos de autocarro e a pé).

• Potsdamer Platz, a praça que é um exemplo de modernidade e de renovação da cidade. A 950 metros (10 minutos de metro).

The Gat Point Charlie Hotel is very centrally located in the Berlin Mitte district so not only is it very well connected to all transport lines but also allows you to visit some of Berlin’s main attractions on foot or a few metro stops away .
• Check Point Charlie – the famous former military post between West Germany and East Germany during the Cold War. 150 meters away:
